Considered the ï¾?Last of the Great Railway Stations? in the United States, Union Station, Los Angeles is a major transport hub serving over 60,000 passengers on a daily basis. The station was opened in the year 1939 and was placed in the National Register of Historic Places in the 1980s.
The History
The station was originally proposed to be built in the heart of the city that was also considered the older Chinatown of LA. Due to probable racial prejudice in those times, it was eventually built in its current location, close to Downtown LA.
The station was put to heavy use during the Second World War, but started show decline in functionality with the advent of air travel and automobiles. The station was formerly known as Los Angeles Union Passenger Terminal and was rechristened Los Angeles Union Station by Catellus Development.
If you are arriving into Union Station after a journey on the Amtrak or one of the many other lines that function to and from this station, you can easily rent a Hertz car from Downtown LA and start navigating the city on your own.
Make it to your hotel with comfort, freshen up and start exploring the sights and sounds of LA with your very own vehicle.
