Auckland’s best golf courses byHertz NZ

Auckland’s best golf courses banner

New Zealand is a mecca of world-class golf courses with the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world. There are almost 400 courses around the country, ranging from six holes to nine or 18 holes, as well as several 18-plus hole courses.

Golfing is almost as ubiquitous as the sea on this island nation. You are never further than one hour from a golf course – and in Auckland, that shrinks to just minutes – and all are easily accessible with a Auckland car rental from Hertz. Golf courses in New Zealand offer good value for money and an array of beautiful environments, including some quite unusual courses. From small rural clubs to premium courses, this is a dream golfing destination. The dress code is generally standard across courses – collared shirts and golf shoes with socks.

Here are some golf courses to check out with your Auckland Airport car hire.

Gulf Harbour Country Club

The PGA-rated Gulf Harbour Country Club is a former host of the New Zealand Open and renowned for offering resort style play. The terrain is nothing short of marvellous featuring sweeping ocean views over the Waitemata Harbour and culminating in epic finishing holes. This par 72 golf course offers something for every calibre of golfer. There’s also a spa, gym, pool and tennis and squash courts. It is an easy 40-minute drive from Auckland city.

The Grange Golf Course

Established in 1924, The Grange is an iconic and immaculate club that has hosted every major New Zealand tournament, including the New Zealand Open Championship on eight occasions. It’s a half-hour drive from the city in south Auckland, within easy driving distance of Auckland International Airport. The championship course is suitable for all players

Akarana Golf Club

In central west Auckland a few minutes from the city lies Akarana, a compact 18-hole golf course. It is one of the closest golf courses to the central city, offering a short getaway to bucolic green territory. The parklands incorporate water features and bunkers.

Titirangi Golf Club

Nearby in wild west Auckland you’ll find Titirangi Golf Club, also a former host of the New Zealand Open. This course was designed by Alister MacKenzie, who is also behind some of the world’s top courses including Augusta and Royal Melbourne. Big upgrades in recent years have cemented Titirangi as a top golf location.
