The countdown is on to the Cricket World Cup 2015. If you’re planning a visit to cheer on your favourite team, read on for everything you need to know about the Cricket World Cup 2015 in Christchurch. New Zealand is co-hosting the Cricket World Cup 2015 with traditional rival Australia this summer – it’s only the second time that the country has ever had the honour.

Christchurch has been bestowed with the privilege of hosting the opening match of the 2015 Cricket World Cup on 14 February. The New Zealand team The Black Caps will face off against mighty Sri Lanka to kick off the tournament.

After that, it’s game on for a long weekend of cricket. On Saturday 21 February Pakistan squares off with the West Indies and on 23 February England will be pitched against its neighbour Scotland. On top of these thrilling games, Hagley Oval will also be hosting a number of international teams for warmup matches in the days leading up to the World Cup opening match.

Hagley Oval is conveniently located in Hagley Park in the centre of Christchurch and has hosted cricket for more than 150 years. While the city was rocked by a series of devastating earthquakes in 2011, it has been steadily rebuilding toward a vision of a bright future. Certain areas in the central city are still cordoned off but almost all roads are now accessible and public services restored, running as usual.

If you’re wondering where to stay in Christchurch for the Cricket World Cup 2015, theRiccarton and Merivale areas are good choices with your Christchurch car hire. There are a number of motels and lodges along Bealey Ave and Papanui Rd, or along Deans Ave, bordering Hagley Park. Just south of Hagley Park in Addington there are more options as well. Head along Riccarton Ave or Hagley Ave into the heart of Hagley Park to reach Hagley Oval.

A nice spot for brunch or a cup of coffee is Addington Coffee Co-op on Lincoln Rd, Addington. For a special meal out, make dinner reservations at local icon Pescatore – this restaurant on level three of the George Hotel on Park Tce presents sophisticated fine dining with views over Hagley Park.
