Wellington’s best golf courses byHertz NZ

Wellington’s best golf courses - Wellington car hire banner

New Zealand is a mecca of world-class golf courses with the highest number of golf courses per capita in the world. There are almost 400 courses around the country, ranging from six holes to nine or 18 holes, as well as several 18-plus hole courses.

Golfing is almost as ubiquitous as the sea on this island nation. You are never further than one hour from a golf course – and in Wellington, that shrinks to just minutes – and all are easily accessible with a car rental from Hertz at Wellington Airport. Golf courses in New Zealand offer good value for money and an array of beautiful environments, including some quite unusual courses. From small rural clubs to premium courses, this is a dream golfing destination. The dress code is generally standard across courses – collared shirts and golf shoes with socks.

Here are some golf courses to check out with your Wellington Airport car hire.

Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club

Regarded as one of the greatest links course in the southern hemisphere by some, Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club is located on the Kapiti Coast, just 45 minutes by car from Wellington. It has hosted theNew Zealand Open a dozen times including superstar Tiger Woods. This 18-hole par 71 premiere course was designed in 1949 by former Australian Open champion Alex Russell and often called the “spiritual home of New Zealand golf”.

Manor Park Golf Club

Not far from central Wellington, Manor Park Golf Club in Lower Hutt offers a demanding 18-hole course along the banks of the Hutt River set among native bush and trees. There is a par 3 practice hole, driving nets, fairway practice area and separate 2-tiered chipping, putting and bunker practice green.

Martinborough Golf Club

An hour northeast of Wellington, Martinborough Golf Club is a par 72 18-hole course that’s more than a century old. The pristine setting includes gently undulating land and fairways and mature trees. Martinborough is prime wine country so wine lovers will have plenty to occupy them after a round.

The Royal Wellington Golf Club

A historic and beautiful course with fine parklands and forest and 27 holes in total. Its par 72, 18 hole championship course will test players of all levels. Look out for native birds amongst the trees.
