Since the earthquakes that shook the Garden City, urban regeneration has been top of the agenda. The annual Festival of Transitional Architecture (FESTA) is a free public event that brings light and life to the blank canvases of empty buildings and sites around the city. Performances and projects celebrate new ideas for the future and a large-scale ‘live architecture’ event over Labour Weekend.
This year’s headline event is CityUps, where budding architects imagine a Christchurch of the future. They take over two blocks in the heart of the city to bring this vision to life, complete with impressive installations, popup eateries, markets and more. A special app will further display virtual future visions of what Christchurch could be, dreamed up by architects all around the world.
