What’s on in Queenstown banner

Queenstown hums with activity all year round. Even as the winter ski season draws to a close, there’s plenty happening in this alpine township. The Southern Lakes region is fairly compact and easy to get around with a Queenstown car hire. It’s a beautiful time of year to pay a visit. Here are some upcoming events worthy of your attention.

Queenstown JazzFest

24-26 October - Various venues

This Labour Weekend, Queenstown JazzFest will be playing host to some of the finest national and international artists around. Since its humble beginnings in 1978 it has become one of Queenstown’s most renowned music events. Every year this live music bonanza takes over venues throughout Queenstown and the wider district to usher in spring with a mix of free and ticketed concerts. The three-day festival is crammed with dozens of events and close to 100 performers in total, including some from the US, UK, Europe and Australia. This year legendary local jazz musicians Mike Nock and Jennine Bailey are hosting. A highlight is bound to be Bailey’s tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. There’ll be a host of other interesting activities including film, theatre, art and dance and of course, excellent food and wine.

New Zealand National Boxing Championships

8-11 October - Queenstown Events Centre

The 112th annual New Zealand National Boxing Championships are coming to Queenstown for the first time ever. The amateur boxing event will host up to 200 competitors at the Queenstown Events Centre. Funds raised will go straight back into the community, toward grassroots boxing development within the Central Otago region.

Arrowtown Long Lunch

5 December - Buckingham St, Arrowtown

The Arrowtown Long Lunch returns for another year. It’s renowned as being a afternoon out of delicious gourmet food, combined with an array of entertainment options. Buckingham St will be decked out with a long row of tables running its entire length. Foodies can check out the various participating restaurants’ menus online and book a seat. Now in its fourth year, the Arrowtown Long Lunch 2014 will be raising money for the Arrowtown Heritage Lighting Project, which aims to create a unique night time environment for the town.
