With more than 30 events on the bill, the Southside Arts Festival is your chance to experience the breadth and depth of south Auckland culture. From live music and performance, to literature, theatre and dance, there’s something for everyone over the two and a half week festival from 17 October to 3 November. Events – including 14 free ones – will be held at various locations around the city, so book a car rental now to give yourself full flexibility of movement. A one-night-only showcase featuring locally and internationally-based Polynesian recording artists, this is a great opportunity to see the amazing musical talent of Pacific and Māori people through reggae and R&B. Held in the heart of south Auckland and produced in partnership with Niu FM. Mixer is fast becoming the leading showcase of contemporary Pacific-flavoured R&B and reggae.

This all-day event encompasses a hip hop workshop, evening show, and graffiti art battle. Cult personalities Homebrew will make a showing, as an indication of the calibre you can expect from the demos and the competition.

A futuristic fashion event with a Pasifika twist, set to performances from Mara TK from Electric Wire Hustle, Rachel Fraser from Funkommunity, Tyra Hammond, and DJ Manuel Bundy. The judging panel includes designer Adrian Hailwood, Canvas fashion editor Dan Ahwa, and Fashion Museum curator Doris de Pont.

The best Pacific short films as chosen by Pollywood Film Festival Director Craig Fasi are up for the viewing over the course of an hour this evening. Finish off by viewing the works of some Pacific visual artists currently on show alongside the best collection of art in Australasia.
