Hotels are great, but if you’re looking for an accommodation experience that’s truly unique, try some of these weird and wonderful options instead:

Silo Stay

Fifty minutes out of Christchurch you’ll find the sleepy borough of Little River on the Bank Peninsula, home to a truly unique accommodation option – a cluster of beautifully repurposed built silos fitted out as luxury eco apartments. The silos offer an opportunity to truly get away from it all.

Greystone PurePod

People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, so you’re going to have to leave your rocks behind when you stay in the ‘PurePod’ – an amazing all-glass cabin. Scattered all across New Zealand, our pick is the Greystone site in the Waipara Valley, housed in the hills of the organic winery of the same name. There’s walking trails to explore, not to mention the winery, so you can enjoy some of the local tipple and produce during your stay.

Glamping at Lavericks Bay

Less than two hours out of Christchurch is one of New Zealand’s best Glamping experiences at Lavericks Bay. Sleeping up to seven people, this is a great option for larger families or groups of friends, and a wood burner in your tent ensures things stay cosy overnight. In just 15 minutes you can stroll down to the private beach where you might be lucky enough to see a seal or the rare Hector’s dolphin. If you’re after a self-made gourmet experience, you can attend a class at the Akaroa Cooking School which runs workshops year-round highlighting local produce.

Whatever you choose you’re sure to have a unique experience, enjoying the many attractions this region has to offer.
