With some of the best wines in the world produced here daily, it’s no wonder that people come from all corners of the earth to taste them at the wineries in New Zealand. The Marlborough region is famous for producing what is considered one of the best Sauvignon Blancs - this wine makes up ninety per cent of all wines produced in New Zealand. Taste your way through the region on the Classic New Zealand Wine Trail, a gourmet taste of the finest produce in the area. Please partake in this activity safely and always have a designated driver to take you back to Blenheim.
You may also want to pay a visit to the mighty Marlborough Sounds. Sitting on the edge of Picton, it’s a huge 1,500 kilometres of New Zealand coastline made up of four different sounds: Queen Charlotte, Kenepuru, Pelorus, and Mahau. You can explore Queen Charlotte by boat from Picton - try and spot the orca, humpback whale or dolphin while onboard. This stretch of water is regarded as one of the best on earth, and you can view it all from the marina in Picton before boarding.
Discover Blenheim in your Rental Car
Of course, you could have an entire holiday all without leaving the boundaries of Blenheim town centre.
A fantastic tourist attraction is the Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre. It’s just a ten-minute drive from Blenheim and promises to educate visitors about World War One and beyond. Part of the reason as to why it’s so popular is due to who designed the exhibitions: the Weta Workshop, based in Wellington, is a small but mighty sculpture studio. They’re the masterminds behind many of the costumes and props in Lord of the Rings, and their work also features heavily throughout Te Papa Tongarewa in Wellington.
The town is a thriving producer of local and delicious food. With the sea nearby, the seafood is sublime. There are a plethora of dining options available, from cafes and restaurants to artisan markets and produce stores. You have a wide range of choices available to you, however we recommend paying a visit to the Marlborough Farmers Market, as it has many of the best products in its stalls.
It’s no wonder that you’re considering Blenheim for a trip. With its proximity to the Marlborough Sounds and some of the best wines globally, it’s a fantastic spot to enjoy a sunshine-filled pocket of the South Island in New Zealand. We hope to welcome you soon, at Hertz Blenheim Downtown.
