Whether you’re after one of New Zealand’s famous flat whites or a major caffeine hit from a latte bowl, a power breakfast or a lazy lunch, Auckland has a cafe to suit your hankering. Every suburb has its own gems. Grab a car rental from Hertz Auckland Airport Car Rental location and make it your mission to sample some of the city’s best.

Dizengoff, 256 Ponsonby Road, Ponsonby

Is a leisurely brunch on the outskirts of the central city what you’re craving? This Ponsonby icon shouldn’t be missed. The decor may be minimalist but the menu doesn’t hold back. The cafe is known far and wide for its famous sautéed mushrooms, but it’s hard to go wrong with any of the choices on offer. The servings are generous and the location convenient. The coffee is great, too.

Zus & Zo, 228 Jervois Road, Herne Bay

A fairly new addition to the Auckland landscape, Zus & Zo is definitely where all the cool kids are at. And whether you opt for something off the menu or something from the cabinet, you’ll walk out happily satiated. The blue cheese mushrooms are a standout.

Cosset, 1087 New North Rd, Owairaka

Cosset is THE place to take vegans and vegetarians (it’s also friendly to the gluten-free). Fresh, organic ingredients are front and centre in this homey, rustic suburban cafe. The brew is from local organic brand Kokako.

Kohu Rd Cafe, 44 Portage Rd, New Lynn

Kohu Rd is a street in nearby Titirangi, and the name of a top-notch gourmet ice cream brand. This is where the factory churns out the foodness, as well as a funky cafe serving not just cones and shakes but proper meals to boot. Kids will have a ball playing in the retro caravan onsite, too.

Pyrenees, 756 New North Rd, Mt Albert

Behind the actual mountain this suburb is named after, French deli Pyrenees is the neighbourhood’s crowning glory. Croissants, tarts, and all manner of baked treats will tempt you from behind the glass. The massive solid hewn table bracketed by long benches lends a sense of togetherness for diners. Pick up some fresh bread or pasta, or frozen pastries to take home with you, too.
