Don’t be fooled by the relaxed, laid back atmosphere of beautiful Christchurch, “city of gardens” – this is also a town that knows how to party. If you’re looking for a sophisticated spot to enjoy an exquisite cocktail or two, or if you’re in the mood to strap on your dancing shoes and get in the swing of things, here’s some nightspots you shouldn’t miss.

King of Snake

Located on Christchurch’s most popular nightclub/restaurant strip, Victoria Street, this is a relative newcomer to the scene that has already made a big impression. Offering a full service restaurant along with an extensive cocktail menu, this is a great spot to start your night with a delicious feast before hitting the bars.

King of Snake is at 145 Victoria St Christchurch.

The Dark Room

If live music is your jam, then The Dark Room has to be on your must-visit list. Hosting a great range of local bands and nightclubs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from a wide range of genres, you’re sure to make a great new musical discovery here.

The Dark Room is at 336 Asaph St Christchurch.

Sip n Paint

For a slightly more sedate option, or if you’re looking for something a bit different, try out a “Sip and Paint” night. Drinks flow abundantly as you’re coached step-by step through the creation of a unique work of art in this hands-on experience that will give you a lovely souvenir of your trip created by your own hands.

The Last Word

If a cosy corner to nestle up to a really good scotch is your idea of a great night out, then The Last Word will be a fantastic choice. Comfy couches and low key lighting, low volume mood tunes and an enviable range of rare whiskeys to choose from are all on offer here. They also have a great cocktail menu and a good range of local craft beers too if whiskey is not your thing.
