Ussco Bar and Bistro

Frank and Albie’s

A café with two locations in Gisborne, this is a popular lunch spot for locals with good reason. Their motto of “We cut lunches, not corners” is evident in their thoughtful and tasty menu options – sandwiches and salads dominate the menu, and their baked goods are also crowd favourites. They pride themselves on fast service and local produce, so if you’re looking for a quick bite so you can get back to your explorations more quickly this is a great option.

Marina Restaurant

Fancy some French food and a glimpse of the water? This chic place finds its home in the historic Lysnar Ballroom, and has scenic decks for al fresco dining in the summer, and a generously sized fireplace for the cooler months. Seafood is one of the specialities, and their modern approach to French cuisine makes this a menu you will be delighted to explore. Their extensive cellar is also a pleasure to experience.

Muirs Bookshop and Café

This café occupies the top floor of a Gisborne Institution – Muirs Bookshop, which has been open since 1905. Find yourself a second-hand holiday read in their “Cemetery of Forgotten Books” or peruse their extensive collection of local authors and Māori books. The café does all of its own baking on the premises so there’s an array of tasty treats on offer here. A book lover’s paradise, waiting to be discovered.

Zest Café

Famous locally for their breakfasts and brunches, this cheery café also has a reputation for excellent coffee, so it’s a great place to start your day. Their “big breakfast” is simply enormous and there’s some great vegetarian options too.
