NewZealand’s landscape is some of the most stunning on the planet - but behind the beauty lies an adventurous aspect that will tempt even the most fearless daredevil.

The country affords you the opportunity to go cross-country skiing, snowboard down a mountain at breakneck speed, or jet through white waters in a lightning-fast boat. So what are the must-do activities when you want to satiate your adventurous side?

Take the plunge with bungee jumping

To some, jumping off a platform and falling 134 metres is heartstopping. Others live for the adrenaline. If you are part of the latter group, choose one of New Zealand’s bungee options and get to it. The Nevis Bungee in Queenstown is the highest, standing at more than 130 metres tall. Other options include falling off the Auckland Harbour Bridge, or plummeting to the Waikato River with Taupo Bungee.

Explore subterranean wonderlands

When you have had enough of hurtling through the fresh air, go in the opposite direction and head on an intrepid adventure through ancient caves. The best place to explore the depths of New Zealand’s underground is Waitomo, where you can work your way through the intricate system with the help of ropes and pulleys. Or, you can take to a boat and enjoy some black water rafting. The caves here and throughout the country are also filled with colourful glow worms that light portions of your journey.

Zip through nature

Originally a means to enable speedy travel through New Zealand’s canyons, gorges and massive mountains, ziplining today gives tourists the chance to experience life at high speed as they fly through their natural surroundings. The North Island’s Waiheke Island and Queenstown’s Remarkables mountain range both provide ideal spots to zipline; and both give you a unique perspective over the stunning land below.
