The museum showcases history and art relevant to the Nelson Tasman region, with the Regional Gallery exhibit telling the story of the area from Māori settlement to European establishment. After a morning of museum exploration, discover the city’s main shopping strip - Trafalgar Street. Expand Your Taste Buds 

Cross the border into Te Tauihu-o-te-waka / Marlborough for an afternoon tasting and light lunch in the country’s largest wine region. Remember to appoint a designated driver when indulging in wine tastings throughout your road trip. About an hour and a half drive from Nelson in your rental car, Marlborough boasts an array of vineyards, estates and cellars showcasing the area's renowned Sauvignon Blanc and other varieties that thrive in the region’s maritime climate. Delve into a tasting at Huia Vineyards in Rapaura to indulge in a glass of their signature Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir or Chardonnay. Enjoy your tasting with a cheese platter in the comfort of their rustic dining setting, the vibrant vineyards providing the perfect backdrop for a serene experience. Before heading back to Whakatū, consider a stopover in Rotokura / Cable Bay. Here, the Marlborough Sounds, Te Tai-o-Aorere / Tasman Bay coastline and Rangitoto ki te Tonga / D'Urville Island can be seen from the Cable Bay Lookout, offering a picture-perfect photo opportunity. Explore the Abel Tasman 

Start your second day in Nelson with a visit to the Abel Tasman National Park - a must-do while on the South Island. From here, you can explore the National Park with a half-day cruise to either Anchorage Beach or Medlands Beach. Savour the feeling of the wind in your hair and the ocean breeze as you cruise through the Astrolabe Roadstead in a smooth-sailing catamaran. Upon arrival at either Anchorage or Medlands Beach, choose some beachside relaxation by lounging by the water, or opt to discover the area on a scenic walk. From Anchorage Beach, consider a stroll through forestscapes to reach the golden sands of Te Pukatea Bay, or make your way to the stunning Bark Bay Falls from Medlands Beach.
